Don Ignacio....a man of hardness, a man of heart.

This is Don Ignacio Duri. He works with plant medicine, making remedies for all kinds of sicknesses. He is an all round top bloke, joke cracker, hard worker and solid human being to the core. I adore him.

This is Ayahuasca being prepared, a plant spirit he works with. When he was 23 he dieted for 6 months with her; no salt, no fat, no flavour, no fun. Eating just to live, isolated from humans to learn directly from the spirit. He tapped rubber to make his living during this period, and onwards for 3 and a half years more in that era.  She taught him everything he knows about making remedies for the sick as well as other practical information to help people in their path. He is like a walking encyclopaedia, a true treasure.

He takes care of his ducks.

Here he is playing his invisible guitar to the spirit world. He never stops working.

Night time bug, lights the night.

Off to work in his chacra. His plot in the jungle where he cultivates the land.

These trees are chopped to make way for yucca (a root vegetable) and various other food producing plants. This is done on a four year cycle.

I got all scratched up navigating this work. Chopping down young trees with a machete. It must take some time and finesse to work out how to come out unscathed.

Oh, did I mention he is 83 years young. Look at his forearm at work here. Just incredible.

Don Ignacio named his dog "Que te falta", or "What are you missing" in English.

She is eating a lentil dish I made.

"Small House"

                                                                          "Big House"

I got bitten by a wasp three times, once on the ear and then twice on the back of my head. Fun!

This leaf was eaten in a way that looks so neat and ordered.

Amongst all these other randomly eaten leaves. This intrigued me, why so neat?

Don Ignacio took me into the jungle to do some shopping.

Man the jungle is hot. We had a heat wave, this day was in the upper 30s.

Can you spot a well known plant all up in the mix here all by itself? Scroll down for a better look.

I would have missed it walking through the jungle.

 Cacao tree!!

The man in the green shirt came to visit Don Ignacio. He comes from Romania, his name is Tibby. He recently arrived from a centre under police investigation because they buried a body of a teenager who died in their care. They claimed to know medicine, unfortunately you have fakers out there just looking for money. Most likely he fell down some stairs that were inadequately railed, Tibby showed me the photo. Just nasty. It was all in the news on the radio.

A journalist arrived with her cameraman to do a report on a real shaman in wake of this happening. She took part in ceremony and had a beautiful experience.

Don Ignacio and I watching a film on a portable DVD player. He loved "Dumb and Dumber".

This man has helped me have greater confidence in God and walk my path in a clearer manner. I have pure gratitude, for him and his life work with medicine. We are all divine creatures, we just need to act it.

Time to go to Cusco! You are encouraged to honk your horn on this windy road. Based on this picture you are also encouraged to have a horn that makes you sound like a clown on a unicycle.

If you look closely you see the workers comfortably having their nap, in a ditch!
